Currently looking at both the Suzuki Samurai and the Suzuki Sidekick. Once we find a reasonable option we will buy a vehicle. Amazing gas mileage, fuels our need to have LESS things, and small enough to travel on single track trails. We’re looking to do a lightweight overland adventure on a budget.
Later on I will include a list of parts and gear that will be needed for the vehicle, I also intend on writing an article about me building a roof rack for the vehicle.
Vehicle
- New tires including 1 spare
- Puncture Repair Kit
- Compressor or pump (Don’t buy a small pump. It won’t inflate a 4×4 tyre!)
- Warning Triangles (x2) and High Visibility Jackets
- Spare Fuses
- Spare Bulbs
- Tow rope or strop
- Shovel
- Spanners and tools
- Spare Oils and fluids
- Fire Extinguisher
- Duct Tape
- Exhaust Bandage
- Medical grade fast setting glue (such as Super Glue) for bush repairs but also to repair you!
- Radiator Hoses
- Auxiliary Drive Belt
- Fan Belt
- Jump Leads
- Spare keys
Hand crank winch. Don’t know how good those trails are kept, or how bad they get in the rain.

Thanks Sean! I know some of the trails get washed out for sure. I’ve been looking into a hilift jack with a self recovery kit. Sort of like a hand winch.
