We woke up to a morning mist on the rim. Coffee to warm our bones and watched the sunrise burn the away the clouds sitting inside the volcano. We surfed down some single track until we got back onto the gravel and flew down a steep descent with incredible time.
Then came the grind. Miles of red lava rock that felt much more like sand. There was an attempted cave adventure that fell flat with a gate. We finally reached camp, at the top of a Butte that elevated 500 ft in about a mile. Some of us pushed, others pushed ourselves to our extreme. It was worth the climb though with an open lookout tower at the top, and flat ground to camp.
